Fakerean Malware

Hi

Just a couple of lines on internet viruses. The computer I use for the net has recently been infected with a virus called “Fakerean” the effects of which are to stop you opening any internet pages claiming that they are infected. It goes on to flash up warnings informing you of infection and that you should buy an anti virus program from them $63? Even more convincing in that it shows all of these warnings using the Microsoft Security centre pop-ups. If you go ahead and buy from them it releases your access back to the net but the virus remains leaking banking and password details.  Luckily my computer is only used for the net, all my photographs are on an isolated desktop with storage on a “Raid” HD unit so none of my work was in danger. Although my Web site design and working docs are on it.

This virus is becoming more and more prevalent and can in some cases circumnavigate your anti virus programme, which it did to mine as I hadn’t ran an update for a while.

There is a way to destroy the infection take a look at this site http://www.malwarehelp.org/fakerean-xp-guardian-removal-2010.html it describes and provides the downloads to rid your computer of it. Just follow to the letter what it asks and when complete you should be free, it's easy no experience necessary, it took mine 1hr 15mins to complete the scan. Sorry but if you’ve got this problem you will probably require another unit to access the page and download the two software links to a USB stick to allow you to run the fix but it saves a chunk of money and time spent having your computer rebuilt and the fix seems safe.

It maybe prudent to download and keep a copy on a stick in readiness just in case! But for now make sure you have a reputable anti-virus package in place and it’s regularly updated. Fingers crossed it passes you by.

Bill
